“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” – Emma Lazurus
One of my favorite landmarks is the Statue of Liberty.
Ever since I first visited Miss Liberty, her iconic silhouette forever remains in my mind. As a young man, standing at the base of Liberty Island, and looking up to Her torch, I got a shiver down my spine. There was some sort of magic in that moment. An inspirational moment that brought an awareness to me that this was much more than some statue that you could buy keychains and trinkets of. Yes, the keychains may live on, but the connection, the sense of wonder, that magical moment will forever be ingrained in my soul.
I hope you feel the same freedom I felt when I painted this.
